Russia threatened to ban Wikipedia in the country because of some information on the page created about the Ukraine attack!
The editors of the Russian version of Wikipedia say that Russia's communications regulator is threatening to block the site. The warning from Roskomnadzor alleged that a page on the invasion of Ukraine allegedly contained "illegally dispersed information" such as Russian military casualties and Ukrainian civilian and military casualties. The editor requested that this information be removed from the article. The article in question is called Russia's Invasion of Ukraine (2022). Here are both the official number 498 given by Russia and the number 9000 given by Ukraine. It was stated that if the information in the article is not removed, Wikipedia will be banned throughout Russia. Currently, this article is not allowed to be modified by new and unregistered users.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Russian regulators have restricted access to Twitter and Facebook. They also demanded that tech companies lift restrictions on state media channels. Facebook, YouTube and TikTok have blocked RT and Sputnik in Europe. Twitter has placed hashtags on tweets from Russian state media outlets.
