Samsung suffered a cyber-attack that could be devastating for the company: The hacker group Lapsus$ announced that it had seized the confidential information of the South Korean giant.
Samsung Electronics has reportedly suffered a devastating cyberattack that resulted in a large amount of confidential data being leaked online. It is reported that a hacker group is behind this attack on the technology giant.
Reports mention that in this attack, Samsung's secret source code was leaked, along with other confidential data. The hackers have already submitted a list of all the data leaked in this security breach.
The Lapsus$ group claimed responsibility for the attack. They have also posted a snapshot of the C/C++ directories in the Samsung software to show that they will be posting the data online.
Later, the description of the leak was published. This description talks about the source code for each Trusted Application installed in the Samsung TrustZone environment used for encryption, access control, hardware cryptography. All of the leaked data reaches almost 190 GB. Lapsus$ split the file into three compressed files and says it will torrent it on the internet.
The apparently leaked information includes algorithms for all biometric unlocks, the bootloader source code for all new Samsung devices, secret source code from Qualcomm, source code for Samsung's activation servers, and APIs and services from Samsung. The technology used to authorize and verify accounts has full source code.
The Lapsus$ group was also in the news recently when it leaked NVIDIA data online. Almost 1 TB of data was lost in the cyber attack. The group demanded that NVIDIA disable open source GPU drivers and LHR on graphics cards to unlock their full potential for crypto mining.
It is unclear whether Lapsus$ has made any claims to Samsung. A news report from South Korea mentions that Samsung officials are evaluating the situation. The company has not yet commented on the leak.
