'Story' competition heats up: A new step from Signal

After Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and many other platforms, Signal also started to develop a story feature. Here is the first information!

The competition between story-enabled platforms is gaining a new dimension every day. Social media giant Facebook / newly renamed Meta, launched the Instagram Stories feature against its rival Snapchat in August 2016. The company expanded the scope of this feature and brought it to WhatsApp under the name 'Status'.

Another platform that incorporated the story format was Twitter. The social media company introduced the Fleets feature, which allows sharing that automatically disappears after 24 hours in 2020, but closed it in August 2021 when it could not achieve the desired success. Now it's time for the Signal app…

Signal hits the button for Stories feature

Popular messaging service Signal has started developing its own Stories feature, XDA Developers reports. This feature, which was detected in the source codes of the last APK file of the application, which has not been published yet, will be no different than sharing a story on Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp platforms.

Users will be able to choose from two different story types, “Group” and “Private”. The first option, as the name suggests, will allow the story to be shared in a specific group; With the second option, you will be able to let the people you specify see the story. You can think of it like “close friends” on Instagram.

Just like on Instagram, those who see your story will be able to react with emojis, and they will also be able to reply to you. However, if you do not want this, you can turn it off in the settings. Signal will notify you when someone replies or reacts to your story. Text and website link can also be added to the story.

Can be disabled

You will be able to control how many people viewed your shared story and you can hide it from certain people if you want. According to the information provided by XDA Developers, Signal has a feature that its competitors do not have: it will also make it possible to disable stories completely. So it will be up to preference whether to use it or not.

Since Signal's new feature is still under development, even a beta version has not been released. For this reason, unfortunately, there is no screenshot showing the working logic of the stories. An official statement on this matter is expected from the company in the coming days.
