Instagram has unplugged two more popular services!

After Instagram, Threads and IGTV, two more popular services were removed from their app stores.

Instagram continues to remove platform-independent applications one by one. The company, which first put an end to the Direct application, ended the use of Threads in late 2021 and IGTV applications in early March. Now it's time for 2 other apps: Boomerang and Hyperlapse.

The platform also decided to unplug its Boomerang, which allows short videos to be repeated to create a long video loop, and Hyperlapse, which allows users to produce time-lapse, time-lapse videos.

Instagram bids farewell to Boomerang and Hyperlapse

Although the messaging application Direct, which was initially closed, was replaced by Threads, which was released in 2019, this only lasted until the end of 2021. Afterwards, the company decided to shelve the IGTV application in order not to interrupt the Reels videos that exploded during the pandemic process.

Following these steps, Instagram removed the apps from the store by doing the same for Hyperlapse, which was launched in 2014, and Boomerang, which was launched in 2015. According to the report given by Apptopia to TechCrunch, these two apps were actually shelved on the same day as IGTV, which was removed from the store on March 1.

Data from Apptopia shows that Boomerang had 23 million active users and 301 million total downloads before it was removed. In addition, the application gained a total of 26 thousand more downloads on March 1, the day it was removed. While Boomerang was available in the Android and iOS stores, Hyperlapse was only available in the iOS markets.

It took a while to realize that the apps were shelved, as Instagram didn't make a statement on the matter. A wider audience was able to take notice when several people tweeted about the removal of the apps, including Matt Navarra and two Twitter users.

Although the company has not made a statement about the shelving of the applications, the data shared by Apptopia and the searches made in the stores confirm this. Although Boomerang and Hyperlapse have been removed from the app stores, Instagram Layout with photo collage is still available.
