Big shock to Samsung from Geekbench: Those models were removed from the list!

Geekbench has removed some of Samsung's models from its list, which has come to the fore with performance restriction claims.

According to Canalys, the world's second largest smartphone manufacturer with a 20 percent market share, Samsung is currently on the agenda with allegations that it restricts the performance of its devices. While the company indirectly accepted this situation in its statement on the subject a while ago, the famous performance benchmarking platform Geekbench has decided to remove some Samsung models from its list.

In the past days, allegations have emerged that Samsung has subjected 10 thousand applications to performance restrictions, including services such as Samsung's Secure Folder, Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, in addition to popular applications such as YouTube, Instagram, Netflix, Microsoft Office, TikTok. Even a list of the applications in question was shared.

The starting point of Samsung's claims that it has reduced the performance of 10 thousand applications is the Game Optimization Service (GOS), which is used in some models. The service, which was designed to optimize CPU and GPU performance to prevent overheating while playing games for a long time, interestingly affected applications, causing performance degradation.

Performance benchmarking platforms such as 3DMark, AnTuTu, PCMark and Geekbench are not among the 10 thousand applications that the Game Optimization Service (GOS) limits its performance. Thus, Samsung models, which include the service, can get high scores by working fully efficiently when they enter the relevant performance tests.

Making statements on the subject recently, Samsung promised that they are aware of the situation and that they will soon eliminate the problems experienced by users by introducing a performance mode to the service. However, Geekbench was not satisfied with this statement from Samsung and announced that the company has removed all Galaxy S series models that have debuted in the last four years from the performance list.

The Samsung models removed from the Geekbench list are as follows;

Samsung Galaxy S22 series

Samsung Galaxy S21 series

Samsung Galaxy S20 series

Samsung Galaxy S10 series

The platform used the following statements in its statement on the subject;

Earlier this week, we learned that Samsung is throttling the performance of games and apps with its Game Optimization Service (GOS). GOS decides whether to throttle performance by detecting the application's identity, not its type. We consider it deliberate that important benchmarking platforms, including Geekbench, are not subject to performance restrictions.
